Mucinated polysaccharides in drug delivery

PEGylated mucins in drug delivery
PEGylated gelatin in drug delivery
Use of combined polymers (synthetic and natural) for better drug delivery
Combined drugs (herbal and orthodox medicines) for enhanced synergism at reduced doses to reduce toxicity.

Techniques You Will Learn

Hands-on laboratory techniques to be given to fellow(s):

Fermentation and Extraction of Secondary Metabolites
Antimicrobial assay techniques for drug discovery and testing
Techniques on isolation of bioactive compounds and elucidation of their structures and antimicrobial properties
Synthesis and characterization of silver nanoparticles from natural products such as endophytes
Testing of silver nanoparticles for potential antimicrobial activity
Research grant writing
Mentorship and research networking / collaboration

Modules

Three months curriculum development for fellow(s) soft skills development during the placement

Meeting: Fellows(s) will have series of meetings with the research group PI to further discuss aspects of the research and timeline in order to ensure that fellows make use of all available opportunity during the fellowship placement. During such meetings, the fellow(s) project will be discussed sufficiently and guidelines issued to adopt the proposal for smooth running of the experimental processes of the project.

Training: During the fellowship placement at our institution, fellows will be assigned a supervisor that will supervise fellow’s work and ensure that the work is going as planned. There will also be a weekly or bi-weekly meeting to deliberate on the progress of the research. Several hands-on training will be given to the fellow(s) to help them develop key research expertise including data analysis, interpretation and management in the area of research.

Furthermore, fellow(s) will be giving training and mentorship in grant writing, writing of manuscript targeting international journals of high impact, and on research collaboration and networking.

Dissemination of research findings: Fellow(s) will be encouraged to present the novel data from the fellowship placement at an international conference as a way of sharing knowledge and forging new research collaborations.

Final appraisal of the fellowship placement: Fellow(s) will be encouraged to also present the findings from their research to a faculty at our institution. This will allow faculty to criticize the work, how it can be improved upon (if necessary) and future prospects
