We are a large non-academic hospital, providing high-quality care to patients in the South of the Netherlands. The hospital is granted several certificates, emphasizing this high quality. Care is provided to patients at 2 different locations: Sittard-Geleen and Heerlen.

The main clinical areas of our group are:

Adult joint reconstruction of the knee and hip
Arthroscopy and sports medicine procedures of the knee and shoulder
Orthopedic trauma
Spine surgery

Techniques You Will Learn

Surgical techniques you will learn during your program here:

Total knee arthroplasty, including newest alignment methods and bicruciate retaining TKA
Outpatient arthroplasty
Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty
Total hip arthroplasty
Multiple trauma procedures
Knee arthroscopy: ACL reconstruction, meniscal repair/excision
Shoulder arthroscopy: Arthroscopic stabilization of the shoulder, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair
Total shoulder arthroplasty
Spine surgery: posterior, anterior and combined fusion procedures.

Curriculum

Duration of the curriculum: The duration of the fellowship can vary according to the fellow’s preferences: 4, 6 or 12 weeks.

Accommodation

We will assist in providing an appropriate accommodation for you as a fellow for your stay in The Netherlands. Try AIRBNB.COM for cheaper accommodation

On your first day at our clinic, we can discuss your specific goals and learning objectives. According to these preferences, you will be introduced to a staff member with specific expertise in this particular field.

Prior to your visit, we will arrange for you all measures for access, so you will be able to fully participate in the outpatient clinic, the OR, ER, and the ward. You will be able to engage in different surgical procedures, depending on what you wish to learn (hands-on program).

Apart from clinical work, you can take part in clinical research and you will have the opportunity to write a manuscript during your stay. Multiple research trajectories exist for you to participate in, depending on the field of interest you wish to operate in.

You will be given the opportunity to take part in orthopedic meetings and multidisciplinary meetings. We encourage you to present the findings of your work at a special orthopedic meeting at the end of your fellowship (please try to learn at least Dutch level B).

Towards the end of the training we will have a meeting with you to discuss plans to publish your clinical work or at least stay involved in the publishing process of the manuscript when data collection has not yet been completed.
