4-12 weeks curriculum:

There are two types of programs:

Fellowship

This allows hands-on training and access to the clinical workflow as well as real patients and their data. However, it requires approval and registration with Singapore Medical Council as well as Ministry of manpower. The paperwork takes about 6-months.

Traineeship

This program requires minimal paperwork. The candidates are able to understand the procedures. However, they would not be allowed to touch patients and their records.

Fellows will be supported to settle down into their new environment and register at the University, during which an ID card will be issued. A desk space will be allocated. The fellow will be fully trained to run a neurovascular laboratory for the advanced assessments of cerebral hemodynamics. Fellows will be able to follow the stroke neurology ward rounds, departmental teaching activities as well as multispecialty rounds (especially the neurovascular and neuroradiology). Trainees are not allowed to perform the tests on real patients, but they can do so on their colleagues. However, the fellows formally registered with Singapore Medical Council would be having patient access rights (under strict supervision). They will also be trained in how to analyse and interpret their data. I will arrange a regular meeting with the fellow to discuss and reflect on their progress and decide the next set of training modules based on data generated. They will be encouraged to engage in small research projects. They will also be encouraged to present their work orally at a research group meeting at least once before they complete their visit. Towards the end of the training I will have a meeting with the fellow to discuss plans to publish their work and disseminate their findings in a future conference. They will also be assisted to identify existing or future opportunities, globally or within their original work environment.

Dr Vijay Sharma took every effort to make us understand and learn every aspect of Neurosonology. My neurosonology traineeship was incredibly rewarding. The program provided an excellent mix of theoretical knowledge and practical training, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience. From Carotid Doppler to transcranial imaging, we delved into the intricacies of each technique, learning how to interpret and analyze the obtained images effectively. I would highly recommend this traineeship to any medical student or professional seeking to expand their knowledge and skills in neurosonology.

Excellent exposure and learning experience. The host mentor is a clinician-scientist par excellence and a passionate teacher who took all possible steps to teach us in a holistic and fruitful way. His passion for neurology, stroke and neurosonology is beyond compare and it inspired me a lot. I am very grateful for the wonderful opportunity to learn under his mentorship. I was involved in observing patient ward rounds with both the Neurology general and Neurology stroke teams. I also received both basics and advanced training on transcranial Doppler and carotid ultrasound. I feel blessed to get a wonderful mentor like him and I am highly grateful. I am very grateful to sir for the awesome traineeship and would be always thankful to him.
