Obtain fundamental information on how disease dynamics are reproduced using common models
Trainees/Fellows will get good understanding on variety of modelling techniques, statistical methods for fitting data, and limitations of these models
Critically apply their understanding to different scenarios including measles, COVID-19 and sexually-transmitted infections

Tasks and Timeline:

Part I

Module 1: Infectious disease dynamics through compartmental models

This aims to introduce participants to different infectious disease dynamics (e.g. measles), how they can be captured in a model (e.g. SIR – Susceptible Infected Recovered), and how this can be used to adapt real-world interventions.

Module 2: Basic reproductive number (R0)

This fundamental concept in infectious disease epidemiology is key to understanding the spread of an infection, whether a new outbreak or an ancient disease.

Module 3:Varieties of model and fitting to data

This provides an overview of considerations when fitting infectious disease models to data, including bias and parameter uncertainty.

Module 4: Sources of bias in surveillance

This provides an overview of considerations when fitting infectious disease models to data, including bias and parameter uncertainty.

Module 5: COVID-19

This module will focus on current considerations in interpreting models of COVID-19, including age-mixing patterns and social distance.
