Host: Netherlands Cancer Institute-The Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital, Amsterdam
Comprehensive approach to management of cancers
The Netherlands Cancer Institute accommodates approximately 650 scientists and scientific support personnel. The Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital has 185 medical specialists, 180 beds, an out-patients clinic with around 106,000 visits, 12 operating theaters and 11 irradiation units for radiotherapy. It is the only dedicated cancer center in The Netherlands and maintains an important role as a national and international center of scientific and clinical expertise, development and training.
These fellowship/Traineeship allows you to combine or select the following areas over four weeks: New methods for diagnostics and treatment, Surgical Oncological Disciplines, Medical Oncological Disciplines, Radiotherapy and Diagnostic Oncological Disciplines and Research in the area of Head and Neck Cancers.
For medical students they could be observers in our department of head and neck surgery. They can join clinics, join rounds in the wards, and if they are tested MRSA negative and have HPV vaccinations they can join in the OR to see and ASSIST IN THE PROCEDURES. We could also let them join mutltidisciplinairy patient meetings and scientific rounds. We could make a program that they also team up for a day with different disciplines like radiology, radiotherapy.
Surgeons need to get MRSA screening and HPV vaccinations before they enter the program

Thanks for your interest in the fellowship program. The program is in English (it would be OPTIMAL if you can understand Dutch to communicate with patients). This is a hands-on fellowship (please note that you can not operate yourself on a patient without your host mentor, BUT YOU CAN ASSIST IN OPERATIONS) in which you will receive training in techniques described. This program is also designed to facilitate long term collaboration.
