Gynecologic Pathology Fellowship

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center

The Department of Pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center offers a one-year fellowship training program in gynecologic pathology. Applicants should have completed basic training in anatomic pathology and be certified (or eligible for certification) by the American Board of Pathology or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (for Canadian applicants).

The gynecologic pathologists at Memorial Sloan Kettering function as part of a multidisciplinary disease management team that includes gynecologic oncologists and surgeons, radiation therapists, and radiologists who work together to establish diagnoses and render state-of-the-art care to women with gynecologic neoplasms. Using a large volume of quality in -house and submitted consultation case material, the gynecologic pathology fellows achieve competence in the pathologic diagnosis, staging, and prognostication of the full spectrum of gynecologic tumors.

The primary goal of the gynecologic pathology fellowship is to enable the fellow to gain sufficient experience in oncologic diagnosis, teaching, interdisciplinary consultation, and independent study to allow individuals to function as outstanding attending pathologists at the completion of training. Fellows prepare for and present cases at the weekly gynecology tumor boards. Fellows will also be expected to attend gynecologic subspecialty sign-out sessions, during which their sign-out responsibilities will become increasingly independent. Teaching of the oncologic pathology fellows and rotating pathology and gynecology residents is required.
